How to Brew Loose Leaf Chai

So you have a tin of our loose leaf chai - what to do next?

This is our favorite brew method for all of our loose leaf blends (except for our seasonal blends). There are so many ways to brew chai, this is just a good jumping off point. Customize it and make it your own!

  • Bring 1 cup water to boil
  • Add 2 tsp chai
  • Boil for 2 minutes
  • Add 1/2 cup milk (or alternative milk)
  • Add 1 tsp sugar
  • Bring back to boil
  • Boil 5 minutes (be careful not to let it boil over!)
  • Strain into vessel of choice
  • Enjoy!

Want to brew a concentrate instead?

Although not a traditional way to make masala chai, a chai concentrate is a great way to have a quick, easy cup of chai, anytime you like.

  • 5 cups water
  • 1/3 cup loose leaf Chico Chai (Original, Red, Chocolate or Turmeric)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Boil water in a pot on the stove. Add chai and simmer, covered for 30 minutes. Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Pour through a strainer into a 1 quart canning jar and put the lid on. Chill in an ice bath until room temperature. Store in fridge and keep for 1-2 weeks. Makes about 8 servings.
  • When serving: Mix your concentrate 1:1 with milk/alt milk and heat or pour over ice as desired.
